GoBoat Pavilion : Custom Retail Design Project

by Squarely Squarely on September 01, 2020

SQUARELY met with GoBoat last year, just as the company was looking to highlight their sustainable profile.

The Brief: GoBoat's owners wanted to make a strong visual and sustainable statement by adding greenery to their pavilion and, at the same time, create a fresh, attractive space for both their clients and employees.

SQUARELY's Design Solution: SQUARELY offered GoBoat a system of self-watering planters that was the perfect aesthetic fit - the pavilion is made from reclaimed wood in the same colour as SQUARELY planters. In addition, due to the functionality, SQUARELY's self-watering system was the ideal solution for a sun and wind-exposed Pavilion.

While planning the project, SQUARELY's designer approached the client with the creative suggestion of converting the Pavilion from a Glass House into a Green House. SQUARELY presented several proposals including 2D drawings and 3D visuals.

The concept was to give a multi-level green experience by adding planters at different heights onto the wooden facade. SQUARELY's designs featured three types of planters, GrowON, GrowWIDE and GrowBIG, with the combination of both tall and hanging plants.

GoBoat was very pleased with the idea and decided to realize the project.

       .

Project Innovations: SQUARELY came up with a new attachment system that allowed planters to be fixed directly to the wooden frames. Additionally, the GrowON and GrowBIG were screwed down directly into the wooden pier, to make them resistant to the harsh winds. Finally, the team carefully chose the plants that can withstand harsh weather conditions.

The Final Look: The space was filled with greenery, coming in from multiple angles. The project presents a new design solution, and it was seamlessly realized with SQUARELY's wooden, modular products.

GoBoat's Experience Working with SQUARELY: Excerpt from "GoBoat Goes Green with SQUARELY! We Interview Operations Director, Mads Sander"

Emma: Have you had plants in the Pavillion before?

Mads: Yes, we had some smaller plants in there that we just looked after ourselves but not a business partnership. It was on our own initiative that we brought some plants in to show that we are a green company and have some green fingers. To show a green touch. You helped us a lot with that, SQUARELY visually helped us to promote the sustainable aspect of our business.

Emma : Are you happy with your SQUARELY planters?

Mads: Yes! We have had a few issues the previous years with plants that died because of the weather conditions inside and outside, so it was nice to get someone in that had some experience with plants - because we don't have time and resources to keep track of all the plants.

Emma : How has your experience been since they've been installed?

Mads: Of course there have been some ups and downs in the beginning because we needed to figure out how do we do it best, and also because it's a new place for you guys, it's not a normal place to install plants - on the water and next to the water like where we are - But I think we have reached a level where we are happy and you are happy. I think It looks nice and it also helps the customer experience to come around GoBoat.

Emma: Would you recommend SQUARELY?

Mads: Yes, of course!
